I work in a documentation and training organization at Lucent Technologies
and am on a team engaged in an effort to document the core competencies
required for all associates in this org., most of whom are technical writers
and training developers.
Has anyone created a list of core skills for technical communicators? I
expect such a list contains items like:
* define the target audience and the purpose for communicating with
that target audience
* conduct research and extract key information
* create an outline that organizes content flow in a meaningful way
* write clearly using proper English construction, grammar,
punctuation, and style
I have found one reference in the TECHWR-L archive, but wonder if anyone has
been through an exercise like this and created a list of measurable skills.
