When I started as a Tech Writer back in the late 70's we where still writing
on paper and sending it to be typeset into galley proof. The copy, once
approved was then waxed and place on boards along with graphics and tables.
The graphics and tables where produced on two different machines. Also, when
I started you had to have at least an Associates Degree in some type of
Engineering, then several years later "the powers that be" decided that it
was easier to teach people with English degrees to do technical writing
rather than teach people with Engineering degrees to write.
