One of the things some of the people on this list keep forgetting is that Andrew Plato owns his company. And like it or not, "them as has the gold makes the rules." The really bottom line is that Mr. Plato is ultimately responsible for the way his writers represent the company to the clients. If one of them doesn't do the job he wants done, or doesn't do the job the way he feels it needs to be done, the employee doesn't belong there.

That said, it makes a great deal of sense to try to work with the employee. There are also governmental rules about terminating an employee, rules that make it difficult to just up and fire someone because you don't like them. Further, there are market forces, particularly now, that make it sensible to try to work with someone difficult, if they have *any* sort of salvageable skills, rather than fire them.

All of that said, the employee Andrew initially mentioned committed one usually unpardonable error: she defied a direct order. That's called "insubordination" and is normally explicitly covered in any employee handbook or set of guidelines as something that is grounds for immediate termination.

If this were happening in my company, she'd be outtahere.
