Ah. Well, there are a host of issues, none of which are format related.

Truthfully, I take screenshots all the time and can confidently save to
**any** lossless bitmap format with confidence, including GIF. The
"underwater" thing made me think of bitmap aliasing, which made me suspect
you were editing them.
