One other thing that MAY have worked against her is that in her post she
said she wanted to spend more time with her kids. If she used that as a
reason to work at home (and we don't know for sure), management probably
assumed that she would trade 25% less work time for 25% more time with the
kids.

For companies who provide a telecommuting option, they need to be sold that
working from home will increase productivity because of fewer distractions,
less commute time, etc. The fact that you can work in your skivies, take
some time out in the middle of the day to play with your kids, or workout at
the gym when it's not crowded are all benefits to US. Justification for
working at home needs to focus on the benefits to the employer.
