>our Barnes & Noble has several shelves of Visual Basic
>books, most of them advertising a CD-ROM full of

Which begs the question... maybe there should be one?

>maybe somebody should start a web site with generic
>examples of documentslike API Guides, User Manuals,
>etc.

Once upon a time I kicked around the concept of making
a "Technical Writer's Companion" aimed at student or
new technical writers, with sample docs, fill-in-the-
blank style sheets, a comparison chart of standard
styles, the rough and dirty basics of HTML, indexing,
DTP, etc. Not a full primer on anything, but a quickie
guide to a little bit of everything - enough to get a
person started and pointed in the direction of more
information.

Life got in the way and I put the project down, but
maybe there's a market out there after all? I'd like
to hear offlist if anyone would think it worthwhile,
and if so, what sort of topics they'd like to see in it.
