Why not:

1) Apply for the job if you want it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. After
all, the worse they can do is say "no," drag you into a dark alley, and vent
their frustrations on you. There's little gained by overthinking this.
2) Be prepared with a good solid answer about why you could not take the job
before.
3) Try to get extra $$$ out of the deal <vbg>.
4) Don't be devastated if they pass on you.
