Once again, I'm glad I'm not in management. :-)

Is it affecting their work? Or someone else's work? If so, tell them what they're doing (and give examples; they probably don't realize the effect they have on people) and tell them to cut it out. If not, well... don't. :-)

However, I have been on the receiving end of this type of speech (I hear some of you saying "gee, *that's* a surprise," but let me point out that it was given by a former Psycho Boss from Hell who thought anyone who disagreed with the boss's pet needed an attitude adjustment, so I didn't deserve it, and quit lookin' at me funny) and I must warn you that, justified or not, telling someone they need to be less grumpy is *not* going to make them less grumpy. No way, no how. At best, it will get them to temporarily *act* less grumpy to your face. The behind-your-back grumpiness will increase exponentially. Unless they happen to be grumpy because of a personal problem and your speech opens the door to some communication, that is.

And some of you are still looking at me funny. Quit it.

How do you deal with people who are constantly grumpy and generally have a
bad disposition?
