A copy of this book arrived in my snail-mail box this morning. It's
by Krista Van Laan and Catherine Julian, at least one of whom is a
list subscriber.

Despite its name, I recommend the book as a very thorough beginner's
guide to the field, covering both the career and practical aspects
of tech-writing, and giving some very solid advice. Flipping through
it, I find all sorts of things I would have liked to have known when
I started as a technical writer. More - I find all sorts of things I
wished I said - and (to paraphrase James Whistler to Oscar Wilde)
probably will.

Of course, I'm biased, because I have a quote in the book (so does
John Posada). But I've thought for years that a book of this sort
would be useful, so I wanted to mention it.

Also, to be honest, I lost Krista's e-mail in an overzealous
cleaning out of my e-mail. So, in case you're reading this, Krista,
let me publicly congratulate you and your writing partner on an
outstanding job - and an even better selection of quotes!

(John, back me up on this, would you?)

"Wild wood, bush and briar, it makes your feet to stumble,
Wise blood, the sky's on fire: away, away,
Wild wood, bush and briar, it makes your heart to tremble;
Love, you mustn't tire at the dying of the day."
-OysterBand, "We Shall Come Home"
