While I was developing the material for the API Bootcamp
session that I gave at the Pan Pacific conference last
October, I asked the programmers that I worked with just
that question. Overwhelmingly, they pointed to _The_Java
_Class_Libraries_ by Patrick Chan, Rosanna Lee & Doug Kramer.
I've only thumbed through the book a couple of times --
never actually used it -- but it looks about as comprehensive
as reference material can get.

I have never heard a developer rave, favorably that is ;-),
over a developer's guide to anything. However, the developer
that I worked with on the developer's guide to the CORBA
Notification Service did actually smile when we were done!
