TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Bill brings up great points. There are too many lazy-*ssed people in the
world who can't figure out for themselves how to look in their own reference
books for the right answer to some banal grammatical "problem." We tell our
clients and customers to RTFM; maybe it's time we start doing the same
thing.
Instead of asking the very learned and gifted (and busy) members of this
list such trite questions as "why is a carrot more orange than an orange?"
FOR PETE'S SAKE, LOOK IT UP YOURSELF FIRST. You may have to stand up from
your chair to reach for that FrameMaker User Manual, or <insert your
favorite reference title here>, but it will be worth the warm fuzzy feeling
you'll get from self-discovery (all "self" words are hyphenated, aren't
they?)
And search engines...now THERE'S an idea that escapes many WEB users...
