My question is, once you've attended that session and done
your first and maybe even second set of API docs, what
sort of "advanced" topics would entice you?

How about how to choose effective examples? One of the things I hate about much of the API documentation I've seen is that it provides the syntax but doesn't show how some of the optional arguments are used. More frequently they have one example of a function in its most common form with only the required arguments. It's not a big deal when the syntax is straight forward, but it's a real hassle when optional arguments take varying or obscure forms (for example, <param> elements in ActiveX objects).
