I'd like to know a little about the ways in which you use technical
documentation from conferences. My employer is considering streamlining the
documentation we hand out at user symposiums. Currently, users receive a big
(2" thick) book, spiral bound, with numbered tabs, that includes the
print-out of each speaker's PowerPoint slide presentation along with room for
notes. They also get in-depth workbooks at each workshop session.

My hunch is that we could hand out books with summaries of each talk and make
full notes from each talk available upon request. I'm not sure of the
logistics of such a plan, though. As a technical communicator, when you
attend a professional conference, do you like to have all the speakers'
notes, or do you prefer acquiring only the notes from specific
talks/sessions? Does having a lot of documentation prove to those at the home
office that the conference was useful? Do you ever refer to the notes back at
work? Would you like to get the presentations in electronic format (e.g, on a
CD or through web access)?

Thanks for your input. Any ideas appreciated.
Carrie
