Subject:That dot in the radio button From:Andrea Kelso <AKelso -at- JetForm -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Fri, 22 Jun 2001 11:42:17 -0400
Thanks to those of you who provided helpful answers on my question about a
name for the dot in radio button.
As many answers pointed out, usually we can just say it is selected or not.
This is exactly why I asked the question. MMoS does not give a name
specifically for the dot that I could find. 99.99% of the time we don't have
to call the dot anything. So what would you call it in the abnormal case
when it is necessary to talk about the different parts of the radio button
(or option button as some of you prefer).
Out of the responses I received, one person liked "pip", a couple of people
liked "selection indicator" or a variation of that. A couple of other people
pointed out that dot is the simplest and what most people would think of
first. As David Berg said
"If it looks like a dot, then I'd call it a dot, and most folks would
understand what I meant."
