I used to work for Discreet in Montreal - developers of inferno, flame,
fire, smoke and many other pieces of software used in film and video. Our
software was used for some of the special effects in The Matrix, Titanic,
Gladiator, and scads of other films. It was great fun to write
documentation for software like this, and I truly miss it.

I've never seen tech writers credited in a film before - fabulous! The
closest brush to fame we'd ever get would be the one or two films that
credited "inferno artists" (like The Matrix, or the mention of inferno on
the Contact DVD). Of course, these were the people actually doing the
effects and compositing, not us lowly tech writers. ;)

You're right, though - film and technical writing don't often converge so
in this respect, writing for special effects software was a really
interesting experience.

Right, back to documenting this riveting piece of billing software now.

Cheers,
Lisa
