This can be applied to other fields as well. If you are going to write
automotive manuals and you ask one of the mechanics a question about the
"big round rubber things" instead of the "tires," you are going to be
treated like an idiot.

A friend of mine had a job interview with a software company last year and
was asked to interpret a sample of Visual Basic code. He told them that he
was a writer and not a programmer and refused to try. Needless to say, he
did not get the job.

1) Respect. If you speak the language, the developer will sometimes give
you the benefit of the doubt. No benefit, obviously, if you're not doing SW
docs.
