Have to throw in my two cents as another Midwesterner....I've actually never
heard anyone say "fak". This is the first time I've heard that people say it
that way. I've always heard "eff ay kyew" as well.

Just to add my thoughts - here in the Northeast (VT, CT and NY - I travel a
bit) I hear both. I hear "fak" from the folks in the business and "eff ay q"
from the uninitiated. Not to cast aspersions on those who sound it out as
individual letters, of course!
