Re: Job Description
Well, you should care, at least a little bit. Street Sweepers have an
hourly rate a bit less
than good technical writers. Less respect from hiring managers, too.
This comment set me to wondering: is there any relation between job titles and the amount you're paid as a writer?
Personally, I don't believe there is. I've been called all sorts of things (some of them unprintable), but my title hasn't had much to do with my pay. Even being called a "senior writer" or a "manager" doesn't necessarily mean more pay - some companies try to substitute job titles for pay.
(Of course, I've been paid more than I was paid as a writer when I've been a product manager or a director, but then I was doing more than simply writing).
Generally, tech-writers seem to spend far more time worrying over job titles than is healthy.
