Since you mention Geoff Hart... I think that the only thing better than his
signature line is everything above it. Without trying to sound like a commercial
for Geoff (you did put that check in the mail, didn't you Geoff?), his posts are
usually the epitome of what this list is about. His answers are well reasoned,
polite, and helpful. He doesn't post unless he has something to add to the
discussion. He addresses posts point by point, and states the reasoning behind
his response.
Bill Swallow recently addressed the issue of tension and incivility on this
list, and I agree with the points he made. We could all learn something from
Geoff, and all the others like him, who take the time to make helpful
contributions based on experience and knowledge. These are the people who make
this list so valuable, and why I continue to subscribe despite some of the less
professional posts.
I in no way mean to imply that Geoff is the only list member whose contributions
are valuable and made in a professional manner. I simply use his contributions
as an example.
If this is inappropriate, I apologize. I, like Bill, have been disappointed in
the tone and quality of some of the threads on the list lately, and would like
to see it get back to the high-quality resource it was when I joined. Please
address any flames to me personally; the list is not the place for them.
