Don,

Are you using field codes in your headers? If not managed properly, they can
really do a number on you. In my experience, the best way to keep Word from
misbehaving, is to keep the formatting as squeaky-clean as possible. Press
Alt+F9 to see what your field codes are. It's a toggle; pressing it again shows
you the text.
