Vanessa says, "I reminded our marketing people that we
needed to get approval to use a big computer company's name/logo etc. before
we post to our website and they seemed confused."
When confronted with this situation at my last job, I just sent an email to
a person listed on the website who seemed to be in charge. I got back an
instant message, "Sorry, out of the office for six weeks for surgery." A
few days later, I got a very nice email from the guy who said that he just
wanted final approval on the website before it was posted. Since it was a
logo that would bring business into his (we were referring insurance agents
to him), he was glad to have his logo there.
Check out the individual website. Sometimes there is a corporate policy
that says something like, "Go ahead and use our logo under these
circumstances...". If not, and you don't know where to go to get
permission, you might consider a text reference, "Click here to visit Acme,
maker of Everyone'sTool."
