I certainly do think of _all_ the non-US citizens that perished in Tuesday's
heinous attacks . . . alongside their American brothers and sisters. And,
while the attack did not discriminate between victims based on nationality,
religion, race, or creed . . . the attack was truly specifically aimed at
the US, a US population center, a US financial center, a US government and
military center . . .. Had it been an attack on the world, I fear the nearby
UN building would have been targeted or attacks would have happened in other
cities in other countries.

I grieve for the dead, the US dead and the non-US dead . . . and many
citizens of other nations have died. But, this was an attack aimed solely at
the US and the US is very much accustomed to handling its own emergencies
and disasters largely alone . . ..

No offence intended, just an explanation of the nationalist sentiments you
are reading . . ..

Yours in grief,

Sean

While it is difficult to be critical after the horrendous events
that have
unfolded, Americans should all perhaps take a step back and wonder
what it is
that attracts the ire of many in the world. Try to tone down the
rhetoric of
'America the great', 'Greatest country in the world', 'Defender of
democracy'
and all the other hyperbole that seems to declare that the U.S.
stands alone
against tyranny.

We should be uniting as a planet and not isolating ourselves into
the same tired
and inflammatory national identities and tribal symbolism that have
caused so
much trouble in the world.

I suggest that everyone forward the e-mail from Cassandra to
everyone in the
World but reworded as below.

International Candle Lighting

Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. step out your door, stop your car, or step
out of
your establishment and light a candle. We will show those that
support
terrorism and violence that the World
is united against them.

Please pass this to everyone on your e-mail list.
The message: WE STAND UNITED - WE WILL NOT TOLERATE TERRORISM.
