Lois Patterson <lois -at- dowco -dot- com> wants to know:

1. If you have a staff position, do you have a budget for books you can
purchase? How much is it?

No, but if I wanted to I could expense any books or magazine subscriptions I buy (and I'd have to leave them here).

2. What topics do you like to purchase technical books about?

Recently I bought Software Project Survival Guide (Steve McConnell), Don't Make Me Think (Krug) and a couple of other HCI books, and Foundations of Service Level Management (SAMS).

3. Do you find it unnecessary to purchase technical books with so much
information available online?

I downloaded MiserySoft Reader so I could read McConnell's After the Gold Rush. I print out a lot of material related to SLM and development life cycle (especially on writing specs/requirements).

4. How much do you spend personally on technical books per year?

Since February, about $350 CAD. I think I'm done for now.
