I'm a contractor. I don't ask for such a budget, but I assume money will be
available when I need something.
On a recent long-term contract, a year in a small company that already had a
decent library (e.g. they'd bought everything O'Reilly offerred a year or two
before), I bought half a dozen books, roughly $250 CDN, about half references
I needed and half things I thought others there could use.
>2. What topics do you like to purchase technical books about?
Cryptography. Linux. Security. Tools.
>3. Do you find it unnecessary to purchase technical books with so much
>information available online?
Don't be silly!
>4. How much do you spend personally on technical books per year?
CDN $ 1000 or so. Current collection is about 10 shelf-feet. It was higher,
but I did some pruning.
