In college, since I was on a track toward scientific research, I did
a number of courses in the area of science and ethics. One of the
big problems is not whether something, at today's point in time, is
ethical or not.

Example. In the 30's through early 70's would it have been unethical,
as a writer, to document the processes behind the Tuskegee
experiments? (if you don't know what this is, look it up...a single
line of exsplaination would not do it justice).

What you might have done and been proud of then, might border on
illegal now. However, at that time, you have research sponsored by
one of the most prestigious learning institutions of its kind;
Tuskegee University, funded by the federal Public Health Service.
Can't get much more legit than that.

Then, in 1992, the President of the US is apologizing for what was
done.

Ethics is not an absolute, but impacted on by current morals, social
change, and public opinion.

I'm sure people think Carnivore is not as bad a thing now as they
might have felt pre-9/11.
