Look at the comp.lang.* newsgroups.

Rob Pike's style paper and Henry Spencer's Ten Commandments are essential
reading for fledgling C programmers.

"Kernighan's Lament" (his critique of Pascal) is amusing, and definitely
part of The Lore.

When the email about "Duff's Device" starts making sense, you've learned C.
