Looks like I'm in the minority on this one. I have sometimes acknowledged
during interviews the issues that prompted me to leave a previous job, or
used some anecdotes (carefully, tactfully, with gentle humor) to explain
the qualities I'm seeking in a position. This doesn't have to be a negative
thing; often those problems teach you something about your own work or
learning style.

For instance, I felt micromanaged in one job, and in subsequent interviews
I was seeking a position with more autonomy--so I would briefly acknowledge
that issue in the interview (with an amusing anecdote if the interviewer
seemed interested and receptive) and segue into some variation on "What I
learned from that experience is that I work better with a certain measure
of independence...."

For better or worse, I tend to be candid, so I try to use that to my
advantage. The interviewers I've met have respected the fact that I
answered the question honestly instead of glossing over it with a stock
answer.

YMMV...
Christine
