Hi, guys...did something interesting a couple of days ago.
I'm documenting Siebel applications that are used mostly by sales and
marketing people. I was given, at my disosal, an experienced
sales/marketing oriented guy, kinda like an ubber-user. However, he
doesn't have access to the User Validation Testing (UVT) environment
that I have, so he cannot test the "new" applications.
I gave him my user documentation and asked him to "imagine" using the
new applications from paper, based on his general understanding of
the Siebel platform and his indepth knowledge of what the users go
through in the field.
Gotta tell ya...talk about not assuming that a user knows
something...made suggestions that made major improvements to the
usability and asked some very good "why" and "how" questions.
If you have the opportunity to give the documentation to someone who
doesn't have the application in front of them and they want to try to
run ther application in their head, I would strongly suggest
it..contributes a new perspective to the documentation.
