Heidi...Tech writing books don't tell you how to write technical
manuals. They tell you how to be a technical writer. Novices read
those book. You post says you know how to be a technical writer. Now,
you need to become an Internet Search Engine User.
The first thing I would do is access a search engine (we really like
google) aznd enter the string Hardware Maintenance Manuals.
I did and got an interesting selection of stuff...and one of the top
10 was the respository for all of IBM's hardware manuals. Scattered
throughout was other similar materials.
Another thing I would do is try to picture who your competition is,
enter their name along with some type of "hardware manuals" string.
For instance, entering "Avaya Hardware Manuals" (the company I work
for), gave a this link (among others):
