Subject:One more note under the door... From:Annamaria Profit <inteltek2 -at- earthlink -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Tue, 05 Mar 2002 21:51:50 -0500
Ok, Eric, here's what I think...
I think personally that all the discussion on this list is a byproduct of
folks working alone in their little offices and cubicles and needing to
talk to somebody--anybody. Some days I log on and there are 10 posts in a
row from the same person! The time/date stamps all come within minutes of
each other. Its a chaotic episode--like a verbal epileptic fit, or a sun
storm...data dump, feelings vent, finger exercise, everybody chimes in,
lightening, thunder, verbage flies...then back to linear progression...code
one, debug two...until the next time. Like a virtual trip to the water
cooler. And you're right--sometimes on the way they empty their bowels, or
commiserate, or pass some snide remarks, or pontificate, or grab a candy
bar and coffee, or just grieve...just like work!
The most amazing thing is that really beautiful moments happen too--folks
find comfort, an answer to a question they've been stumped by, a laugh or
two, relief in the middle of relentless anxiety, some free advice (ok, is
it really free if you have to wade through 60 e-mails with the same subject
line to find it?) Let's just practice mercy for awhile.
