SchemaText is a single-source publishing system with an elaborate graphical user interface. It is not in itself a linguistic tool. Rather, to efficiently use a (i.e. any) single-sourcing system, a lot of basic questions concerning content structures have to be addressed, both on a higher level (quality, target audience, media types necessary etc.) and on a lower level (writing standards, processes). To answer these questions, we successfully employ linguistic methods and knowledge.

Linguistic methods are complemented by SchemaText as the "facilitator" tool. It serves as the writer's "command center" where information units can be linked, arranged, edited, and enriched with metadata. Content is stored as XML.

As content editors a wide range of tools can be used:
- XML editors such as XMLSpy, EPIC, or XMetal,
- MS Word or
- FrameMaker+SGML.

Content generators are available for
- any flavor of mark-up languages (XML, SGML, HTML),
- printed documents (FrameMaker, MS Word, Interleaf/Quicksilver, 3B2, ...) and
- online help (HTMLHelp, WinHelp and others)
SchemaText's GUI lets you easily create new documents by rearranging and masking content and by changing language, version and target formats. Furthermore, workflow management and translation management are integral parts of SchemaText. SchemaText is available as a Single User variant or as a Client/Server variant.

For further information, contact me off-list. I will post further info to the list only if expressly requested.

Have a nice day!
