I have seen some fantastic use of animation on websites. It's aggravating
and counterproductive, though, if the website gives you no choice and/or no
warning that you are about to enter an animated website. (www.guardian.co.uk
uses animation for various examples, but invariably as an added extra - you
don't lose out if you can't play, and you are always warned when you are
about to play an animated map or feature). I'm happy for a webdesigner to
use all the resources available - but I greatly prefer the webdesigner who
remembers that a large proportion of Internet users have dial-up modems. The
two are not incompatible, either.
