UT State Univ has a visiting professor, Robert Pyle, here this term
who is a nature writer. Most of his formal training is probably in
Biology/Ecology, but he's teaching classes in the English
department so I'm sure he has some formal training there, too. He
did a reading Friday night of his poems and his prose. I was
completely entertained, and left with little voices in my head that said
how wonderful it would be to do that type of writing -- he is doing
technical writing (field guides on butterflies and general ecology) as
well as creative writing. By appearances he's quite successful, too.
(Hey, he authored my copy of the "Audubon Society's Field Guide to
North AM Butterflies" ).
