>Which hotels are YOU using???
Usually it's a Sheraton Four Points. But I've also used Holiday Inns and
I've had a Radisson pestering me for an event lately that I might try.
>In my experience, we paid a lot for hotels ... not so much for the
>exhibition space, but for the breakout and meeting rooms, the ballrooms
for
>general sessions, the food and drink in between sessions, meals, etc.
Only thing you've got on that list that I don't usually get is the food. I
did get several boxes of free chocolate chip cookies from Midwest Express
once (those cookies are to *die* for) but they offered them to me without
my asking for them. Chessplayers all have favorite diet habits during
events, so it's simpler to let them make those arrangements themselves. All
I arrange for is a constant flow of ice water, bottomless pitchers of it.
>In a conference situation, the organizers reserve the hotel meeting space,
>exhibition space, and blocks of rooms for attendees -- often 6-12 months
in
>advance of the event itself.
I'm averaging 6-9 months lead time, myself, but I've worked as much as two
years in advance in some cases.
>When you subsequently advertise the conference, you may or may not get the
>number of attendees you expected.
I know. In those cases I get socked a bit for the site space, because the
room credits don't completely cover it.
I'm still curious about the budgets.
