TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'd go back to the meanings of the prefixes, "un-" meaning "not" and
"de-" meaning "do the opposite of." This would suggest that a message is
unencrypted until you encrypt it, after which you decrypt it. English
generally doesn't use a hyphen after a short prefix unless the writer is
inventing an expression: "de-Britneying the air waves."

Anybody care to venture a guess as to which of the following is correct
when you are referring to a step that "undoes" encryption:
- Decrypting
- Unencrypting
- De-encrypting
