Oh, boy...I'm hoping there is someone out there who has run into a similar
problem...or who has better guessing capacities that I have!

We create help files using RoboHelp 9. One writer uses Windows 2000, one writer
uses Windows 95. I'm the production manager; I use Windows 2000. We're all on a
network. Both writers have just finished projects. Their last step is to create
printed documentation (.doc files), then they transfer their entire projects
(RoboHelp files, art, .doc version, etc.), without disturbing the file/folder
structure, over to my area of the server. (Graphics -- .bmp and .wmf -- are
placed by reference in the .doc files.)

In the past, I have worked sucessfully with these .doc files.

This time, though, the first time I opened up the .doc files the graphics were
missing. I had empty boxes (of different, appropriate sizes) with the symbol in
the corner that indicates a missing graphic. My colleague who runs Windows 95
(and opened a .doc file he didn't create) had a similar result -- only the
symbols were different because of the operating system. The next several times
we tried to open the documents we had different results, including a missing
TOC; graphics that were visible, but were all scrunched or stretched to the same
size; empty boxes, all of equal size, with missing graphics symbols; and,
finally, some graphics that showed up and some that didn't.

The problem comes when we try to open files on computers different from the one
on which they were created, no matter where the files are on the server. The
files open correctly only when they are opened on the computer on which they
were created -- even the copied versions that have been transferred over the
network to a new location. We tried unsuccessfully loading one set of files onto
a Zip disk and opening that on a different computer. We've also tried WinZipping
the files.

So, I'm hoping that your magic wands are available, and not too rusty, and that
someone can solve this mystery -- or at least give me some options to think
about! Please let me know if more information would help.

Thank you.

Jan
