TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
First, True Lurkers didn't respond on- or off-list. :)
Second, there are surely plenty of articles on the web or groups.google re:
the sociological "facts" as it were re: participants in a forum. Not really
different from "live" large-group social interaction. This stuff is worth
digging up and reading about IF you're really interested in it. However,
there is little effective "intervention" because lurkers are happy to lurk.
Third, I usually respond off-list, contrary to the assumption that an
on-list response is "better" but in line with the old newsgroup rule (not a
troll not a troll not a troll) that held you SHOULD respond off-list and let
the original poster summarize usefull responses ... thus saving bandwidth
me-too, me-too, insults, etc.
Fourth, me-too, what he said, she said, he said, he said, they said, etc.
