TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
This morning there was quite a stir,
Over a parting post to techwr,
And to be quite blunt,
Some took affront,
Over ideas that they did not prefer.
Some people, it seems have a skin,
That is just a little too thin,
and though it's absurd,
They take every word,
As a personal insult (You can't win).
Now I think it's a shame to have to,
Put prior restraint (as you do),
On things that you post,
If you don't want to roast,
>From flames from th'oversenitive few.
And when did it become called cruel,
To use ridicule as a tool?
Ideas that are silly,
Should go, willy-nilly,
I live by this general rule.
Most of all I find it quite sad,
That people's behavior's so bad,
That they would persist,
To attack off the list,
(If you did this I say you're a cad)
My suggestion for all those who read,
(A suggestion in which we're of need)
Is when you feel stressed,
Try to think the best,
And your upset will surely recede.
And it isn't too wise to assume,
When reading a list or news room,
That every line,
Was written by swine,
Whose goal is to set you to fume.
Don't take every post that is new,
As being directed at you,
A new ease of mind,
You surely will find,
If you keep this perspective in view.

(I think I'm going to take a break for
a week or two and come back when things
have quieted down.)
