And I respond, I hope more intelligibly:

PageMaker does not deal well with indexed colors. It therefore does not deal well with GIFs. The original question had nothing to do with PageMaker, however; and I should not have expressed a preference for TIFFs over GIFs under the circumstances. I hope that clarifies my response.
