I just had the same situation, except the objects were long phrases. The conclusion I came to is that the commas are not needed for grammatical purposes (and in your situation they should just be eliminated); however, with the long phrases, we needed _something_ to mark pauses for the reader; and we couldn't come up with anything better and less obtrusive than commas. I'm open to better suggestions, though.
