For what it's worth, my experience leads me to agree with Darren Barefoot
<darren -dot- barefoot -at- capeclear -dot- com> that a targeted approach to jobhunting works
better than simply blasting your resume to every company you can find an
e-mail address for. That's not to say the spam approach is fruitless, just
inefficient.

However, regarding blackballing spammers, as a manager I didn't have the time
or energy to draw up any such list. You never know when you might need a job
yourself! Besides, life's too short and unexpected to hold grudges. One of my
former managers set the benchmark in this regard. I once asked her if she
would ever again hire Mr. So-and-So, who'd been fired, and she replied that
the only person she ever knew whom she wouldn't take another chance on was
Mr. Such-and-Such, who had come after her with a gun! (In the fullness of
time I've learned that even people like Mr. Such-and-Such can be gainfully
employed if properly medicated. But I don't blame my former boss for caution
on that score.)
