I will concede that the situation can occur where a very short-sighted
management will replace competent, experienced people with lower priced,
inexperienced talent. Again, I guess I've lived a sheltered life (though you
wouldn't know it), because I've never seen that happen.
What I have seen happen is people who have been with an organization for
awhile, who may have been stellar performers at one time, and who are certainly
paid at the top end of the range, but whose performance has dropped off.
Sometimes way off. Finally, an organization realizes that they'll get better
results with newer people, even if they have to suffer the growing pains of
inexperience to get those results.
Sometimes you gotta weed the deadwood out if you expect to see productivity
improvements. Sometimes people who have been someplace for awhile simply stop
working; they 'retire on the job.' Well, I don't think the office is a welfare
organization, and they certainly don't owe one anything simply because one has
been there awhile.
Your mileage may vary. I don't know anyone on this list well enough to even
suggest this applies to you or to a situation you may have witnessed. I merely
offer it as a different perspective to consider.
