Dick Margulis reports: <<I have a graphic in Photoshop that consists of an
opaque white square with a dark border, then some painted objects on top of
the white square, but they overlap the edges of the square, sticking out
into the transparent background.
When I use the Export Transparent Image wizard, the extending objects get
truncated, so I have only the box and whatever was within its limits.>>

Last I heard, one of the more annoying problems with PostScript is that is
still doesn't directly or correctly support transparency. That means the
software has to fake it, and as you've discovered, that sometimes leads to
problems.

<<When I open the PSD in Illustrator and try to create the EPS there, the
entire bounding box becomes opaque. So what I'm looking for is a way to
generate a clipping path (in Illustrator, I assume) that gets rid of the
background but preserves the extending images. This is for a PageMaker
pub...>>

Can't help you with specific details, but sometimes all you need to do is
come up with an acceptable workaround. Here, the workaround might be to set
the "transparent" portion of your image so that it prints the same color as
the paper you're using (setting the color to "paper", or "white" if you
can't coerce the software into letting you do that), then in PageMaker, move
the object to the rearmost layer. You can then wrap text around the bounding
box manually (if required) using the standard wrap tools.
