I'll add a ditto on to the Joel Spolsky web site (it's an interesting read,
I hit it often).
His book is great (User Interface Design For Programmers). Also I'll add
Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think, and there a book whose author I don't at
the moment recall, called The Design Of Visual Computer Interfaces which is
also quite good.
