I occasionally use pen and paper for doodling, but I am an extreme
whiteboard fan for design work.  I now have a full wall that is all white
board.  I wish I had a whole white board room.

I cannot draw and type on computer nearly as fast as I can on a white board
and it allows for much easier group design sessions.

We use digital cameras to record the whiteboards and use some cheap
whiteboard software to actually enhance the white board shots.  Its great.

Once we are on the right track, we move to Visio.
