I would make two lists:
1) A list of what your BOSS wants in a new employee in this position.
2) A list of what YOU think would be most helpful in a new team-mate,
based on the challenges you typically face in this position.
Then, develop some questions that address the items on those lists. Make
them open-ended questions that invite elaboration; NOT yes-no questions.
Be conscious of how much you talk. You want the interviewee to do most of
the talking, although a smart applicant will ask you a lot of questions,
too. After all, they're trying to figure out if they want to work there,
while you're trying to figure out if you want to hire them; it's a two-way
street.
It's good that you're taking this responsibility seriously. This is
literally life-changing stuff, so put a lot of thought into it. Good luck!
