Another potentially cliche/gobbledygook question that I think has some
merit is "how do you respond to criticism?" or something along those
lines.

If this person is a real writer, they've dealt with being edited. Find out
how they feel about others criticizing/editing their content.

If they're open to being edited, and actually welcome additional input
about their writing, you're on the right track.

But if they start ranting about some idiot supervisor they had, who knew
nothing about grammar but still dared to suggest that the writer change
something, beware: this one might not play nicely with others...
