Folks,

I should say that the major problem I see with the multiple versions in one
document is not really the maintenance - that's what they pay me for - but
the difficulty in reading it. The user has to make a decision every couple
of sentences if the next section concerns him or not. While one would hope
that our clients have a real sys admin to install the server, the last guy I
heard about was a Cobol programmer. He followed every step to the letter,
including some that did not apply to his situation.

I would love to produce eight versions of the install so that the user does
not have to make the decision on what to read, only what to do. I know the
technology is out there, so people are beginning to expect it. But I don't
know what I can do on short money. Do you think I should produce the eight
versions, or the one version that can't be printed?

P.S. This would be on CD, so if the system crashes, the person can put it in
another machine. And if they don't have another working machine, the crash
was probably caused by a power outage.
