Maybe, maybe not.
Obviously, you don't pick an obscure subject. As I said, you first
examine your specific marketplace and pick the primary field for the
companies in your area. Companies are like geese...they like to be
surrounded by their own kind...makes canabalizing people resources
easier. Let's take NJ. NJ has LOTS of types of businesses...but also
a great concentration of telecom or life-science related. If you were
in Texas, it might be high-tech and petroleum.
Usualy, every area has at least one field that is on the upswing, and
yes, it takes research and forethought to figure what that is.
Let's take a vote...in this current economy, how many senior-level
generalists are out of work or now working at 40% or more less than
they were 1-2 years ago?
