Which is why I was hyping the degree program at JMU which requires you to choose a cognate area (legal studies, biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science, etc.), fulfill and internship in your cognate area, and serve on the Student Publications Group (which published most of JMU's catalogs, brochures, and web sites). When I left college, I had an impressive enough portfolio and enough experience behind me in computer science to be hired at $40,000+ and have never dropped below that rate or have had problems finding a job since. I admit, I still use some of the material from college in my portfolio today.
